Competition from consumer electronics and the challenge of integrating multiple functionalities with no impact on safety, security, or performance is tipping the automotive supply chain toward red ink—unless the industry collaborates to solve its common problems. Foremost among these are interoperability and ease of integration. Past attempts at generating standards, although yielding useful protocols and interfaces, have not really tackled the integration barrier.
